Dunki Ott Release Date and Streaming Platform Confirmed

Dunki Ott release date and streaming platform Confirmed: Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, has made its OTT debut. If you’re wondering when and where to watch it, we’ve got all the details for you.

Released in theaters on December 21, 2023, Dunki has already made a mark at the box office, earning a whopping ₹454 crore worldwide, as reported by Sacnilk.com. Initially, the film was supposed to make its digital debut on JioCinema, but it is now available on another popular streaming platform.

Dunki arrival at Netflix

Netflix has now acquired the rights to stream Dunki. On Wednesday, the platform announced its OTT release with a new poster on Instagram. The caption read, “Pack your bags! After a Dunki around the world, @iamsrk is coming home… Dunki, now streaming on Netflix! ” Fans were delighted to learn that they can watch Dunki on Netflix, starting from Valentine’s Day in 2024.

Dunki is a emotional story that sheds light on the issue of immigration. The film’s title is inspired by the term ‘donkey journey’, which highlights the struggles and dangers people face while trying to migrate to a different country. Along with Shah Rukh Khan, the star-studded cast also includes Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Boman Irani, Anil Grover, and Vikram Kochhar.

The film marks Shah Rukh’s last release in 2023, following the success of Pathaan and Jawan. Director Rajkumar Hirani expressed his excitement about working with the superstar and said in a recent interview with ANI, “It’s always a pleasure to work on a film with a meaningful and powerful story. Shah Rukh was hooked on the script right from the beginning. After doing action movies, he wanted to do something different, and he was very involved and thrilled about this project. It was my dream to work with him, and I’m glad I finally got the opportunity. We had a blast working together.”

Dunki vs Salaar vs Tiger 3

The reception for Dunki was a mixed bag, receiving both positive and negative feedback from the audience and critics. Its release also coincided with Prabhas’ highly successful film, Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire, leading to some clashes. The Hindi version of Salaar is set to debut on Disney+ Hotstar on February 16, while the original Telugu version was released in theaters alongside the Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil versions. However, with the exception of the Hindi version, the others were launched on Netflix last month. Despite making over ₹470 crore for Red Chillies Entertainment, Dunki was unable to surpass the success of Tiger 3 (₹464 crore), joining the ranks of other highly grossing films such as Jawan, Pathaan, Animal, and Gadar 2 in the Top-5 club.
