COVID 19: Coronavirus cases and new variant JN.1

India has seen an increase in Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with 824 new cases reported. As a result, the Union Health Minister has instructed states to keep an eye out for new variants of the virus. Since May 21, this is the most fresh case that has been found. The JN.1 variant at this point has 28 active cases. The new variant JN.1 VIRUS has been found in 1 case in Maharashtra, 4 cases in Kerala, and 23 cases in Goa, respectively.

As of Wednesday, Maharashtra had confirmed one case of the JN.1 virus and reported 24 new cases of COVID-19.

What is the JN.1 virus variant?

In recent weeks, JN.1, a subvariant of the Omicron variant of Corona, has become known as one of the viruses with the fastest rate of spreading. Despite the rising COVID cases throughout the country, NITI Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul said on Wednesday there is no need to panic. It has been reported that the first case of the new Corona subvariant JN.1 was discovered in Luxembourg in August. Following that, it progressively expanded to 38-40 countries.

COVID-19: On Wednesday, senior authorities and chief health secretaries held a high-level conference under the direction of Union Health Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya in reaction to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in six states: Goa, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Delhi.

As per numbers released on Wednesday by the Health Ministry, there are currently 2,311 active cases across India. Also, There have been three new deaths recorded in Kerala.

In the meantime, data from the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) revealed that 28 cases of the COVID-19 new variant JN.1 had been discovered nationwide. Out of them, Goa has yielded 23 leads, while Kerala has 4 and Maharashtra has produced one apiece.

Mumbai gained attention after Kerala discovered the JN.1 Covid-19 variant, as Mumbai has the most number of cases that have been reported in Maharashtra. Doctors, however, warn that since most cases are minor and controllable at home, there is no need to panic. The new variation and the drop in temperature are blamed for the increase in cases. Doctors recommend that vulnerable populations follow COVID-19 guidelines in order to protect themselves against COVID-19, JN.1 virus is a contagious disease that is also increasing and rapidly widespread.

What is the JN.1 virus treatment?

JN.1 infections are treated similarly to seasonal flu. You can make a full recovery from the JN.1 infection by doing the following actions:

  • Consume enough liquids, such as juice, soups, dehydration remedies, and water.
  • If the temperature rises, anti-fever drugs like paracetamol can be used as soon as possible.
  • Consume a diet rich in vitamins and protein that is healthful.
  • If you don’t get enough vitamin D from your diet, take vitamins.
  • When interacting with other household members, wear a mask and remain at home until you feel better.
  • Tell your doctor if you have any related illnesses such as kidney problems, diabetes, hypertension, asthma, or pneumonia.

How to protect ourselves from the JN.1 virus?

Actions taken by the JN.1 virus are identical to the ones we would use to treat respiratory infections in general. The following are some suggestions for protecting yourself against COVID-19 and the JN.1 virus

For additional care and management, visit a doctor if you or a loved one shows any of the following symptoms:

  • Social separation is especially important in crowded areas and among persons who have colds or coughs. 
  • Stay away from crowded, big events, and wear masks in public.
  • Consume a balanced diet, get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day, and take your vitamin C and D supplements as prescribed by your doctor.
  • To keep your hands clean, use a hand sanitizer.

Who is at a higher risk of infection due to this new virus?

The following individuals should practice extra caution to prevent contracting the novel COVID-19 subvariant since infection can worsen and lead to hospitalization and, in extreme circumstances, death.

  • Those over 60 and much older. 
  • Those who are afflicted with long-term conditions including diabetes, hypertension, etc.
  • Pregnant Mothers
  • Patients who are suffering from HIV, cancer, and genetic immunological abnormalities in small children.

Mumbai Lockdown 2024?

Most of us don’t want another Lockdown but still, this question comes to all of our minds: will there be a possible lockdown in Mumbai in 2024?

The answer is NO! At least not for now because there is no official announcement from the Government or Health ministry.
